For exciting outdoor activities, the Isle of Arran makes a great destination. With everything from paragliding to quad biking there is something for everyone who wants to try something different

Paragliding on Arran Paragliding

If you already have an interest in the great outdoors or just want to give something a go then we have some great suggestions for outdoor activities for you to try

Quad Biking

The Arran Quad Centre at Balmichael is the place to head. They offer everything from 1 hour to full day treks for 2 to 4 people aged 16 or above. With experienced mountaineers and mountain leaders to guide you it is sure to be an adventure to remember.

Paragliding

If you have stood on the ground and watched people paragliding and fancied trying it yourself, then why not come to Arran and give it a go.

Flying Fever is based on Arran and offer one day Funday and Tandem courses. From there you can advance by taking a 5 days beginners course and a 6 to 10 day intermediate course.

For experienced paragliders there are a number of good sites around the island. The Flying Fever website has a whole section dedicated to flying on Arran

Power Boating

Arran Power and Sail based in Brodick offer power boat trips from 30 minutes to a 3 and a half hour trip around Ailsa Craig. Prices range from £15 to £50.

Horse Riding

Arran has a choice of 2 riding stables.

  • Cairnhouse Riding Centre is located at Blackwaterfoot and offers 1 and 2 hour hacks along farmland and sandy beaches. Prices are £15 for one hour and £30 for 2 hours. Tel: 01770 860466 for more details.
  • North Sannox Trekking Centre also offer 1 and 2 hour sessions with similar prices. The 2 hour treks goes along the beautiful Glen Sannox as well as rides along the beach. Tel 01770 810222 for more details

Geocaching

For those not familiar with Geocaching, it is a form of 'treasure hunt' using handheld GPS devices to find a hidden cache. There are around 50 hidden caches on Arran from the top of Goatfell to the Co-Op car-park.

Arran Adventure Company

If you want to enjoy your outdoor activities with other individuals or with a group of friends the Arran Adventure Company might be your solution.

Kayaking on Arran Kayaking on Arran

Whether it's with your family, a stag or hen party, a school group or even a business group they can tailor something to meet your needs.

They offer such activities as kayaking, climbing, abseiling, archery and, gorge walking.

For kayaking you could take part in a half day, full day or even a 5 day trip around the island.

For something different how about gorge walking. They offer 2 locations and the trips include exploring waterfalls, plunge pools and natural slides, it's sure to be a day to remember.
